Giclée
The term gilclée originated in 1991 to distinguish “fine art prints”, created
with digital output, from those prints that were created for “non-art” or
commercial purposes.
Giclée (pronounced 'jee-clay') derives from the French words gicleur (nozzle)
and spray (gicler). Directly translated, giclée means “spraying nozzle”, which
describes how most digital printers direct ink onto various materials.
Our paper giclées are printed on fine art rag paper made from 100%
cotton. It is a fiber-mold-made paper that is pH-neutral, acid-free and
lignin-free, with no optical brighteners (only on the natural white) and calcium
carbonate as filler. At 256 grams per square meter (gsm) this paper has a
beautiful texture and quality feel. Our Canvas Giclées are printed on a
8oz 100% cotton based canvas with no optical brighteners and finished with a non
yellowing gloss or satin varnish.
Print permanence testing measured at 450 lux and simulating ideal museum and
gallery conditions, concluded that the print life on this paper should exceed
120 years with Canvas testing exceeding 80 to 100 years.
Our inks are pigmented, combined with our high quality substrates make our
prints water-resistant and archival.
